Hello all!!! Everyone of us will be well aware that usage of cell phones inside flight is banned. But we won't be knowing the reason behind it. If you ask to any technical person, they will tell that usage of mobile phone may cause interference with the flight signals. Is it true? Let's have a look.
During take off and landing usage of mobile phones or electronic devices will not cause flight crash. During travel also it will not affect the flight.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has alloted the band which each devices can use. Mobile phones will have certain band and flight communication will have another band. So there won't be any interference.
For example in FM, each channel will have certain bandwidth and it cannot be interfered. The same principle will suite the communication band of other devices.
In 1990 Boeing flight attendees told that usage of electronic device has led to the deactivation of auto pilot. But they were unable to prove that in the lab.
In 1991 Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) has banned the use of electronic products inside flight.
There is no proof for the interference of electronic signals and the flight signal. But there are some good reasons for the ban. No one needs to hear someone talking loudly in their phone. Silence is the main thing which most of the flight travellers like. During takeoff and landing it will be easy to alert the passengers by the flight attendees, if they are not using electronic items.
So the ban of usage of mobile phone has brought up silence and attention. Some flight companies allows passengers to use mobile phones in flight mode. This will prevent the wireless communication of the mobile phone.
Some flight companies are coming up with wifi connectivity. You can use those wifi for data usage. These wifi connection uses dedicated band for air to ground communication.
