The Internet Backbone! Unbelievable | Big Tech Bang explains

     Hello all!!! This decade has exponentially increased the use of internet. Daily we use internet for social media, browsing, watching videos. Have you ever wondered how the internet works? In this post we are gonna discuss about working of internet. We will be concentrating on the backbone of Internet.

     The image shown above has some components like Local Area Network, Modem, towers, ISP(Internet Service Provider), Internet backbone.

Router

     The router send and receive signals from the devices which we are using like mobile phone, laptop. The signal coming from the modem is made to split by using router, so that many device can be served. The router is the local area network.

Modem

     Modem is the device which connects the signal towers and the router. The modem is designed so that it can connect with the signal towers.

     The difference between router and modem is that, modem is used to connect with ISP or the signal towers and router is used to serve the devices we are using.

Signal towers

     The signal towers will be transfering signals from modem to ISP and vice versa.

ISP

     Internet Service Provider is the companies like Airtel, Jio. They provide access to internet with charges. 

Internet Backbone

     Everything is going well till now. These much days we would have thought that internet is something which is wireless. But in the diagram you can see at the end everything is connected using wires. There is something called Internet backbone. You may be thinking what the hell is internet backbone?

     Internet backbone is the physical wires which is submerged in ocean to connect different parts of the world for accessing of data. Yes, you heard it right, there are wires which travel through the ocean.

     These wires are laid by workers. It may get damaged by certain attacks from sea living things. Then you may lose the internet. But there are too many wires connected, so in any one of the way you will get access to the server you are looking for.

     In the above diagram you can see the backbone of internet. If you are in Canada and you need to access the google server placed in Asia, then your request will travel through the wires in the ocean and then you will get access. But the speed is high. You will get the results within some milliseconds. There are too many cables present in the ocean as you can see in the diagram.

     There are two teams working for the repairing of the submerged cables. One team from west travel towards east to rectify the damage in the cables. Another team travel from east towards west to rectify damage in the cable in their respected areas.
