Why there is no drive A and B in computer?

Hello all!!! Have you ever wondered why there is no drive A and B in computers? Then this post will serve your hunger for the answer.

In olden days when floppy disks were used, there were two drives of floppy drives in computer. They were named drive A and drive B.

When floppy disk came into existence it was about 8 inches and can store only 175 kb. Yes, that's really less. But in those days it was a big deal for storage.

As days goes by CD (compact disc) came into existence and taken over the floppy disc. Almost everyone started using CD because of it's massive storage capacity than floppy disk. IBM plays a major role in CD's success.

After that almost all computer companies stopped adding floppy drive in their computer. But the traditional installation of drive for Windows has been C:/. It also helps someone who needs to add floppy drive to their computer. So that they can use drive A and B for floppy drive.

You can also change the drive name in your computer to A or B. While you are buying a new computer, it will be having drive C as default. The cd or dvd drive will be the successor ie; mostly D. You can change it as you like.
