Why do planes fly so high??? Big Tech Bang explains

Hello all!!! Have you ever wondered why planes fly so high? In this post we are gonna see some factors which decides the height in which the flight needs to fly.

Air Resistance

The main reason for the planes to fly high is the air resistance. As the height of altitude increases the atmosphere or air density reduces. This is because, as the height of altitude increases the magnetic field of the Earth decreases.

If the density of air decreases then the plane can move more faster. This is because of less air resistance.

This can be explained using an example; Your running speed in road and treadmill will vary. This is because while you are running in treadmill there is no air resistance.

Fuel Efficiency

As the air resistance is less in higher altitude, flight can move more faster. This will increase the fuel efficiency of the plane. But this is not the same for all planes. Some planes has better fuel efficiency in more air resistance path.

Escape from violent weather

The ideal altitude for commercial flight is 35,000 feet. This will make the flight to avoid clouds. So the flight will escape from thunderstorms. If the flight pass through the cloud then there will be turbulence in the flight and cause panic.

Safety of Birds

35,000 feet high altitude will make the flight to fly above the birds. Almost all birds fly below 35,000 feet. So the birds won't hit the flight.

Avoid Obstacles

Flights fly so high to avoid obstacles like towers and skyscrapers. So it will provide safety to the passengers and the people on the ground. Since the altitude is based on sea level, flying so high will avoid terrains.

Time to Fix

If the flight is flying just above the high towers and buildings, then there is a serious problem. If something goes wrong, then suddenly the flight will hit the ground. If the flight is flying so high then the pilot will get more time to fix the problem, so that crash can be avoided.
