How electric train gets power? Big Tech Bang Explains

Hello all!!! We all would have traveled in electric train once. Have you ever thought how they get power supply to run? Are they using batteries? In this post we are gonna see how electric trains get power supply?

The power required for the train is directly transmitted from the substation. The supply will be of 25kV. Since the voltage is high, current will be low.

The power is transmitted through the catenary. Catenary is line which runs along the railway track. It has supporting cables to support.

Then the power is transmitted to the pantograph of the train. It is the part of train. It is the contact part which makes the train to get into the electric circuit.

The pantograph will always be in contact with the catenary. So there won't be any interruption in the power supply. The design for the catenary will be in such a way that there should always be contact between pantograph and catenary.

The power from pantograph is stepped down by a transformer and is given to the motor of the train.

The posts on either side of the track will be holding the supporting line and the catenary. So the post will be highly insulated using insulators.

Thanks for reading. If you like this post share with your friends and Subscribe to the blog. Have a nice day.
