Hello all!!! Have you ever wondered why the sea water is salty? If so, then in this post I am gonna explain why sea water is salty?
We know about the water cycle. The water gets evaporated and settles in cloud and fall back as fresh water ie; rain.
During evaporation fresh water vapour is evaporated. When it fall back as rain it will not be pure or fresh water. The rain drops will absorb Carbon dioxide from the air and becomes slightly acidic.
When this acidic water falls on rocks in land it will remove some minerals from the rock or land as ions. This ions are washed away by the river and streams and dumped into ocean. During evaporation the minerals are left out in ocean and only water is evaporated which increases the concentration of minerals and makes it more salty.
The Sodium and Chlorine form bond and becomes Sodium Chloride. The 90% of the minerals in ocean is Sodium and Chlorine.
You may get doubt that why river is not salty? The minerals will be flowing through river, but it gets washed away and dumped into sea. Since, river is getting fresh water by washing away the minerals, it is not salty.
