Hybrid electric cars use internal combustion engine and electric motor. The advantage of combustion engine is more mileage and the advantage of electric motor is usage of electricity as fuel. The hybrid electric vehicle combines the both advantages thus increasing the efficiency.
The hybrid electric cars have two batteries. One battery is for powering the motor and the other is auxiliary battery for powering the components in the car. The traction battery will get recharged during the travel.
The fuel is given to the internal combustion engine. So the wheels rotates and moves. The generator harvest energy from the rotating shaft of the wheel during braking. This energy is stored in the traction battery. The traction battery power up the electric motor and contribute for the movement of the wheels.
