YouTube, Google, Facebook are banned in China bcz they hate US?

Hii all!!! It been a long time since not posting any blog posts. Now I am back with an exciting post. In this post we are gonna see why Google, Facebook, YouTube are banned in China?

One of my friend is studying in China. One day she told me that, in China Facebook, Google, YouTube are not accessible. I got surprised. Why the hell it is not accessible? Then I started a small research online to know more about this topic.

Here we will be talking about the ban on Google and Facebook in China. At last I will list some of the companies which are banned in China.

GOOGLE

For searching any article we use Google search to search for content. If we want to watch videos we use YouTube. But in China you can't do that.

In China everything is under the control of the Chinese government. Guess what? Even internet is under the control of the Chinese government.

Chinese government doesn't want any information against them to reach the people. So they ask all companies in China to give the data to the government.

Google was first launched in China in 2001. Then after they released a seperate version for China. As per the Chinese government rule Google censored their search accordingly. But Google faced a cyber attack originated from China. So they redirected all searches from mainland China to Hong Kong. So it was uncensored. Because Hong Kong version was different than the mainland China version of Google.

Atlast in 2014 Google stopped it's services in China. Now Google has office for it's hardware products.

Some news are coming up that again Google is developing a seperate version for China and is trying to enter into China.

FACEBOOK

Facebook is the World's largest Social media platform. Unfortunately it is not available inside China.

During 2009 a riot has happened in China. Some posts regarding this riot had been posted on Facebook. Even Facebook had the data of terrorists. When China Government asked for the data of terrorists to Facebook, Facebook refused to share that information with the government.

So Facebook was partially banned in China. Only advertisers can advertise on the platform.

Then Facebook tried to enter into Chinese market by laying a foundation for startups to grow in China. They helped startups to be started in China. But the Chinese government had not approved those startups and Facebook has failed again in China.

Even WhatsApp is banned in China. Since Whatsapp uses end-to-end encryption, it cannot share the user data with the Chinese government. So WhatsApp is banned in China.

Most of the banned products in China are not banned in Hong Kong. Even my blog gets more views from Hong Kong and I have not even got a single view from China. So sad guys.

     Below I have mentioned some of the top companies which are banned in China;

  • Wikipedia
  • Microsoft One Drive
  • Netflix
  • Instagram
  • Twitch
  • Quora
  • Discord
  • Pinterest
Here comes a question in your mind. How Chinese people are able to live without Google, Youtube, Whatsapp? Instead of Google they use Baidu search engine. Instead of YouTube they use Youku or Tudou. Instead of Whatsapp they use WeChat. All these alternate companies share the user data with the Chinese government.

You can use VPN to access these blocked sites in China while you are in China. But I have heard that even if you use VPN also within two days it may get blocked. All this is because of China's great Firewall.

Thanks for reading. If you have any queries let me know in the comments. If you like this post then share with your friends and subscribe to the blog. Have a nice day.

Key Takeaway: BBC, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal are also banned in China. This is because western journals may give information which are against the Chinese government to the people.
