What is Satellite Phone?

     Hello all!!! Have you ever heard of Satellite Phone? In this post we are gonna learn the evolution of the satellite phone.

     If you are in an exciting travel and get lost somewhere, then you will take your mobile phone. You will try to make a call to your trusted person. But, you will notice that there is no network available. Then this travel will become a nightmare to you.

     This will happen because cell phone towers are not available in every part of the world. This problem can be solved by satellite phones.

     Satellite phones will allow you to connect to network in all part of the world. This is because, satellite phones gets signal directly from the satellite. So there is no need of any local towers.

     Now we can see the evolution of the satellite phone.

Intelsat

     In 1965 the primary satellite network was created by Intelsat. This has made a great impact in the way of communication. Passengers in the ship were also able to text, talk, email, etc. This provides a better communication for the marine travel.

Iridium

     In 1995 Motorola has launched a system called Iridium. This made the communication in any part of the world possible. It uses low orbit satellites. It has used 66 satellites for this purpose. This also provides hand held communication technology all over the world. Later Iridium was bankrupt.

Globalstar

     After some days of the launch of Iridium, another company GlobalStar has launched its network. This network also similar to the Iridium. But GlobalStar uses 44 satellites. The bandwidth used by GlobalStar was larger than the Iridium. It went bankrupt in 2002. Currently it is providing service but with interruption.

Thuraya

     Thuraya was launched in 1997. But it started operating from 2001. It provides services to Europe, Africa and Middle East. It has also provided the capability to switch between GSM and satellite. It has sold over 6 lakhs phones.

Immarsat

     This company is the latest arrival in the satellite phone market. This company was started in 1979. It has introduced it's product InSatPhone-Pro in 2010. This provides service globally except north and south pole. 

     
     All service providers gives the same service. It's our choice to get the product we like.
