Why iPhone has less RAM than Android smartphones?

     The two best and most widely used OS for smartphones are Android and iOS. Both OS have  their own uniqueness. One of the main specs we need to consider while buying an Android smartphone is RAM memory size. But in iPhone it doesn't play a major role. Have you ever thought how is that possible for an iPhone to have just 2 GB RAM whereas Android require 8 GB of RAM. 

     I have gone across various sites and done some research. Here I will explain why Android needs huge RAM memory size than iOS.

     There are two major reasons for this:

• Compatibility
• Garbage

COMPATIBILITY:

     Android is the OS for smartphones. It is used in various smartphones of various brands. Each company may vary their chipset inside the smartphone. So Android OS should be ready to compatible with the smartphones. 

     In order to make this happen Android OS is designed using JAVA. JAVA has the virtual machine which will convert the code and make it compatible with the device in which the code is being running. This virtual machine itself require a lot of memory space.

     If you need an iOS based smartphone then you should go for Apple iPhone there is no other choice. Apple has never shared their OS with any other company. They know the specifications of the smartphone they are gonna manufacture. So they will be designing iOS according to that and they don't need to think about compatibility with other devices.

     iPhone which has 1 GB RAM can also run the latest iOS but Android needs 8 times more of it to run the latest Android OS.

GARBAGE:

     Android is build around a method called "Garbage Collection". This allows the apps to use RAM memory as much as they require. The data which are not gonna be used in future are collected and deleted after sometime. So garbage collection also need memory space.

     But in iOS, apps cannot use the RAM memory more. They should manage the memory more efficiently. 

     For smooth experience of Android you need at least 4 GB of  RAM memory space where as in iOS you need just 2 GB  of RAM.
