We all know that earlier in March this year, Facebook faced a data breach problem. It was mentioned in everyday News. A company called Global Science Research (GSR) developed a Facebook app. It collected data of the people who gave permission to access their data. Also, it took the data of the friends of those who gave permission to access their data only. The permission to access friend's data is given by the Facebook company.
This has happened two years ago. But no one cares about it. Even we don't care whether our data is accessed or not. So what happened this March? The true results of data leaks were made clear during this time.
The current President of America is Donald Trump. Everyone surprised when he got selected as President. Donald Trump had used specific parts of the leaked information to win the election.
Now, history has repeated. Google also learned that they had almost the same problem as Facebook. A problem with the API for Google+ gave much access to the third party app developers.
Like Facebook, Google has given permission to access the data of friends of people who used the app. After Google discovered the data leak, they chose to keep quiet.
When the news comes to light, Google put up a post that "We are shutting down Google+ for consumers".
They said 500,000 accounts could have been affected. They are also not sure about the number. They also said that there is no evidence that any account is being misused.
